Chiropractic Is Effective in Treating and Offsetting the Effects of Osteoarthritis

The definition of arthritis is the inflammation of a joint. There are many types of arthritis, but one of the most common is osteoarthritis. Learn the key factor that can slow down and even prevent the painful effects of this condition.

What is Osteoarthritis?

This is a degenerative joint condition that occurs because of wear and tear on joints. The areas of the body that are mostly affected are the hips, spine, ankles and knees. It equally affects both men and women and it usually becomes more common when people get older.

Can Chiropractic successfully treat osteoarthritis?

A recent study published by J. Fournier, G Cramer, et al in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, shows a very clear link to developing osteoarthritis and spinal joint immobility.

The study analyzed the changes in the joints of the lumbar vertebrae when being fixed together in rats and not able to move. They found that hypomobility (joints fixed) resulted in degeneration of the facet joints over time.

The fixed joints broke down as the joints that could move remained healthy.

This clearly shows that a healthy spine with mobile joints can offset and lessen this condition. It is important to see a chiropractor on a regular basis to make sure that the spine and other joints of the body are mobilized and as fluid as possible.

In the long run chiropractic can be more effective.

Don’t wait till you start suffering from arthritic conditions. If you already are, regular chiropractic care can greatly lessen the effects and essentially slow down the degeneration and aging process.

What are your other options?

Traditional medicine doesn’t offer any other options to treating this condition except for prescribing NSAIDS (non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). Understand that taking drugs does nothing to stop the progress of degeneration, but it does help with the pain. However, with the use of taking drugs on a long-term basis, there are many associated risks and side effects you’ll have to deal with.

Aging of the spine

In our lifetime, all the weight bearing stresses that our vertebrae must take, can create wear and tear. Some experts say that degeneration of the spine is just a consequence of daily living and is a normal part of the aging process. Even though it is, how you treat your spine and joints, determine to a great degree how fast the degeneration occurs.

With the correct kind of care, you can prevent undue aging and wear and tear throughout your life. Regular chiropractic care can keep you in optimal health and reduce your risk of having to suffer from these arthritic conditions later on in life. Degeneration can’t be reversed, but you can feel a lot better and live a better life with chiropractic.
