Carpal Tunnel Syndrome—Effective Relief Without Surgery

Don’t suffer from pain and the thought of surgery. Find out how carpal tunnel syndrome can be effectively treated with chiropractic care.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a very expensive work-related injury. It is categorized as a repetitive stress injury condition. Most people that have CTS have jobs that require the same type of movement or motion hour after hour that becomes the culprit. If you or a loved one is suffering from this condition, most likely you are performing certain movements, that over time, are giving you problems.

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a repetitive stress condition named after the anatomical part of the wrist that is the source of the problem. There are bones in the wrist named carpals that form a tunnel that allows many nerves, tendons and blood vessels to run through. The major nerve that runs through this tunnel is referred to as the median nerve.

Because of injury, stress and strain from repetitive movement, the tendons running through the carpal tunnel become swollen. This presses and constricts the nerve causing many symptoms such as numbness, pain and tingling in the hands, thumbs and fingers. As this problem persists, it can cause arm weakness and pain not only in the hands and wrist, but all the way up the arm.

  • A feeling that your fingers are swollen even when there isn’t any inflammation present.
  • Tingling and pain at night in one or both hands making it very difficult to sleep.
  • Strength losses in the muscle near the palm of the hand at the base of the thumb.
  • Shooting pain that travels from the hand and up the arm. Depending on the severity of the problem, it can travel all the way into the shoulder.

How a chiropractor can help

Chiropractic, in combination with other alternative modalities, has been found to be extremely effective for the treatment of CTS. Many methods of chiropractic include the adjustment of the wrist and other areas such as the elbow and upper spine.

However, a complete chiropractic treatment consists of additional care such as ultrasound, massage, ice/heat treatments, wrist supports, education on proper movements and ergonomics in the workplace. In addition, to maintain relief of symptoms, an in home stretching program is usually implemented to keep you healthy and symptom free.

What makes a Chiropractic treatment a better choice than traditional medical treatment?

The main difference is the absence of pain medications and anti-inflammatories. If you’ve been told that the only solution to CTS is surgery, don’t believe it.  Treatments are effective and can save you from expensive and unnecessary surgery.
